Deep within the Peruvian Amazon, an ancient heritage refuses to fade.
In the late 19th century, Moroccan Sephardic Jews arrived in the isolated jungle outpost of Iquitos, drawn by the roaring rubber boom. They stayed, married local indigenous women, and raised families. Generations later, their descendants still carry names like Cohen, Pinto, and Khan—practicing a vibrant, distinct blend of Amazonian life and ancestral Jewish tradition entirely unknown to the outside world. The Fire Within is an extraordinary, moving documentary that chronicles this community’s fierce battle for identity. From their rejection by the traditional establishment to their inspiring journey of mass conversion and immigration to Israel, this film is a beautiful testament to the survival of the human spirit, belief, and heritage.
